Polk County ends sale talks for Prairie Meadows Racetrack
Polk County supervisor Jack Bishop said plans to sell the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino to the Racing Association of Central Iowa are off due to controversies. The 232 acre property has been leased to the association since 1990. A 1997 analysis valued the site at 242 million while a recent draft appraisal put it at 107 million. Voters face a November decision on county gambling for eight years.
