Testing guidelines urge diabetes screening based on risk factors
The ADA recommends testing for pre diabetes and type 2 diabetes in adults who are overweight or obese with extra risk factors, and starting at age 45 for those without risk factors. Risk factors include inactivity, family diabetes, certain ethnicities, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, PCOS, gestational diabetes, and prior glucose abnormalities. Regular testing intervals depend on results and risk, with possible more frequent screening as advised by doctors.
