Rare DuPont Coins Ransomed In Miami Heist Case
A Miami private detective recovered 13 rare American gold coins from Willis du Pont’s stolen collection for 50 000 dollars. Edward Stanton, working for du Pont, identified the coins in Philadelphia on January 6 after his wife said the husband exchanged 500 100 dollar bills for the pieces with a man in a downtown office building. Officials noted further coin recoveries failed and a proposed sale of the rare Russian pieces was halted by Stanton and du Pont’s attorney for undisclosed reasons.
