The Iowa state highway commission awarded Olson Construction of Waterloo a 42094 contract for a concrete viaduct over the Milwaukee railroad near old Cedar Park. Haegg Construction of Cedar Rapids got a 25696 17 contract for filling, grading, and paving approaches. Construction starts April 1 and lasts about 30 days paving thereafter. The 109 foot wide bridge crosses railroad tracks obliquely with a sidewalk and railing, rerouting traffic.

Richard McCune 31 of 313 Thirty-second street NE died in the basement of his home from a self inflicted head wound with a 410 gauge shotgun. Coroner Dr. R Ex Munden ruled it a death by own action amid health concerns. Family says he returned home about 1030 am and shot himself after borrowing the gun at 930 am.
