Milk Market Open After Court Decisions In New York

New York's milk industry faces an unsettled future after a state supreme court ruling against price fixing by the agriculture and markets commissioner and a federal district court ruling against the milk marketing order. The market remains wide open with uncertain price effects and prolonged appeals. Smaller dealers and producer groups voiced opposition to price fixing amid ongoing coexistence with the Dairy Men's League. Milk production runs high in the milkshed, raising the danger of price-cutting as the market lacks enforceable price controls and clear legislation.
