Iowa Lack of Full Inspections Halts Safest Care Facilities
State records show 39 percent of Iowa’s 178 residential care facilities have not had a full state inspection in at least 30 months due to a 2011 law delay and limited inspectors. Prairie View in Fayette last had a full inspection in 2009 amid ongoing investigations after a fatal beating. Authorities restarted inspections in 2011 but with only four inspectors, leaving many facilities under scrutiny.
