42nd Street NE to get months long reconstruction in Cedar Rapids
A major overhaul of 42nd Street NE will begin Monday and run for months, replacing pothole filled pavement with new asphalt bike lanes and wider sidewalks from Weing Road NE to Interstate 380. The project, phased to avoid major school disruptions, aims to ease daily traffic for about 12 000 vehicles, including routes to Transamerica Kennedy High and Pierce Elementary. Local leaders and area residents say the work is overdue though it will cause delays, with Pastor Paul Wilcox noting the improvements will finally fix the long deteriorating road and add bike connectivity.
