Backers seek lease extension for Muslim youth camp at Coralville Lake

Georgia man denied bond in child sex case
A 27-year-old Georgia man, Gary Archer of Valdosta, was denied bond in U.S. District Court on charges of interstate travel to sexually mistreat a child and transporting a child for unlawful sex. He allegedly traveled from Georgia to Iowa to have sex with a 14-year-old girl, staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Iowa before returning to Georgia. Trial set for April 25. potential penalty 10 years to life and a $500,000 fine.

Toddler dies after being hit by pickup on rural road
A 2 year old boy Myles Brazen died after being struck by a pickup driven by 63 year old Arlan Hammer on South Mound Road in Sherrill Dubuque County. The child ran onto the road as authorities investigated and no charges were filed. The investigation is ongoing.

Tragedies reported in two Iowa crashes claim lives
Dean Bohr 82 and Marianne 76 died when their car stalled on a rail crossing on Franklin Avenue in Mechanicsville and was struck by a train. Investigators with the Iowa State Patrol are proceeding with the crash probe. In a separate incident Steven L. Myers 50 of Mount Vernon died when his flatbed truck left Tram Street south of Timber Lake Road, struck a tree, and entered a ditch. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office reports Myers was not wearing a seat belt and continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

Companion faces murder charge in Dubuque
Teodoro Borrego, 52, sought as a material witness in a Dubuque homicide, is now charged with first degree murder. He was arrested in Oklahoma City last week and held on a 750000 dollar cash bond. Shani Smith, 40, was found dead at home from a gunshot wound after she did not show for work.
