Wisconsin Expands Its Cranberry Crop Growth under mechanization and large water use
Wisconsin grows about 500000 barrels of cranberries yearly on 5000 acres with a 1967 gross of over seven million dollars. The industry is largely mechanized and uses water efficiently via solid set sprinkler systems. A major marketing cooperative opened a fruit grading plant in Babcock, the world’s only one. Cranberries thrive on land unsuitable for other crops, while water use has declined in recent years.
