Solon backs flat income tax in Iowa debate
Rep Washburn W Steele proposes a single 1 percent rate on net income replacing the graduated Iowa tax. He says it reduces bureaucracy and aligns with federal moves toward flatter rates, with 38 to 39 million dollars raised, to aid property tax relief. The House panel weighs a 100 percent rate plus other tax changes.
