Washington police seek armored MRAP under 1033 program
Washington Police Chief Greg Goodman asks the city council to acquire a demilitarized MRAP through the Defense Department 1033 surplus program. The vehicle would be free except for transport costs and a few thousand dollars yearly to operate. He argues it would aid responses to active shooter or standoff situations and recalls a 2011 shooting in Keokuk County. Mayor Sandra Johnson says costs are low and skeptics worry about militarization, while council member Bob Shelliyer vows a 'no' vote.
