A Health Systems Research Inc study for a legislative task force finds about 220000 Iowa residents lack any health coverage. Lawmakers say revised survey questions explain the drop from 345000 and caution the issue remains.
The Iowa House 97 0 approved a bill to establish an ethanol technology research center at the University of Iowa and form a consortium with Iowa State University to study non grain ethanol sources. The center would plan increasing ethanol powered vehicles in the state motor pool and advance renewable fuel development.
The Iowa Senate approved a measure 32-13 allowing non profit bingo operators to keep 35 percent of net receipts for operating costs 10 percent more than now and lowering the charity requirement from 75 to 65 percent.
Iowa officials say they have not pursued or even reviewed David Letterman’s request for 30 second state video submissions. Branstad press secretary Richard Vohs said the letter arrived before the National Governors Association meeting and received little consideration. Governors remain wary of Letterman’s potential to mock states.
Elaine Baxter announced at a Statehouse news conference that she will run for a second four year term as Iowa Secretary of State. She cited streamlined voter registration and easier business filings as accomplishments and said a large public private registration drive is planned.
