House committee seeks 1942 farm program funds
The House appropriations committee sent to the House a bill for 1942 farm program funding totaling 890,824,037 for the Agriculture Department and related activities. The bill cuts 193,023,502 from the current year and 492,934 from budget estimates, with parity payments planned at 212,000,000 but largely financed via commitments and authority rather than cash. The committee urged reforms to sub divisions, June busing practices, and research programs while preserving soil and rural aid, REA loans, and parity payments key to stabilizing farm prices.

Pigs Farrowed Near Electric Hovers On Clarence Farm
The Arnold Meier farm south of Clarence reported six sows farrowing Thursday and Friday producing 56 pigs. Meier uses two electric heating units with thermostats, twelve farrowing pens, and a system since 1935 to aid spring farrowings. Records show higher returns and lower costs per 100 worth of feed than state top farms, with 1939 feed cost per hundredweight of gain at 3.13 and last year’s average sale price at 6.77. A note adds a Californian hen laid a split yolk egg.
