The Iowa state planning board says about 318,300 homestead owners will share rebates under the homestead tax relief act, with a $10,000,000 fund. The amount fluctuates with revenue from state sales and income taxes and many burdensome properties may be excluded from tax replacement benefits.
President Roosevelt voiced strong support Tuesday for a new federal wage and hour statute in this session of Congress. He urged passage before recess but warned against framing his stance as a firm mandate, saying no advocated bills are in the must pass category. His remarks come amid debate over his plan to name six new Supreme Court justices following the NRA ruling.
President Roosevelt sent a 240 page industrial analysis to Congress examining the defunct National Recovery Administration. The commission chaired by J M Clark and others found NRA lacked definite standards for hours wages and anti trust rules and urged future action be more clearly defined. Virginia Lambert, 17, died after ingesting sixty grains of strychnine in North Platte Nebraska. County Attorney S S Diedrichs said no note or motive was found and the act appeared to be self inflicted.

In Joliet Illinois patrons at Anton Grohar’s tavern staged a sitdown strike to protest a beer price rise to 10 cents for a 14 ounce mug.
