Iowa lawmakers seek repeal of unattended engine running law
Two western Iowa lawmakers Rep Megan Jones and Sen David Johnson filed measures to remove the 1913 era rule that penalties may apply if a vehicle is left unattended with its engine running. They argue remote starters and safety trends render the old statute obsolete. Law enforcement notes show minimal enforcement, with few citations in recent years. Concerns about car thefts and warm up needs are discussed by insurers and officials.
