Iowa City woman Mary Palmberg plans a 3 180 mile ride from San Diego to St. Augustine Florida with WomanTours to raise funds for breast cancer research in honor of LaArme Lefler a 47 year old rider diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer The two met through Lefler s husband Ken Palmberg s bike mechanic The trip follows a 4 000 mile route in 2000 and will cover 30 to 100 miles per day over two months The tour includes 28 women and leaves Friday from San Diego Palmberg who retired from the University of Iowa in 1998 has long biked and favors Texas on the route.
