In a videotaped interview three weeks after drowning her five children Andrea Yates said she believed she must kill them to save them from hell and that God would take them. Psychiatrist Resnick testified Yates knew the drownings were illegal though not morally wrong, and diagnosed schizophrenia and major depression.
