ITINERANT MANAGER INTERESTS CEDAR RAPIDS BASEBALL CLUB
News that Kenneth Blackman will manage the Cedar Rapids club in the Central baseball association this summer circulated as he sought to balance college duties at Buena Vista. Blackman said he would stay at the college until June 1 and hopes to keep a college post if allowed, while Pratt, the owner, indicated disapproval of a dual role. The piece also notes Illinois basketball's evolving nickname debate and its rising scoring team, plus a brief on the Harlem Globetrotters defeating the Minneapolis Lakers and Cedar Rapids fighter Sorenson's post weigh-in appetite miscue before a pro debut for Tommy Gavin.
