In Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena the Springville Orioles claim the Class 1A girls basketball championship with a 67 60 win over Newell Fonda. April Coppers scores 44 and Alison Woods 32 for Springville in a Magic season finale.
Cedar Rapids Washington faces Iowa City High for the Class 4A girls title tonight at 7 30 p.m. Washington advanced with a 54 51 overtime win over No 1 Wankee, while Iowa City High beat Linn‑Mar 55 39 in Friday semifinals.
Coralville pair Cassie Hirsbrunner and Mike Faust compete as finalists for Bridal Guide America's Favorite Couple contest worth 87 000 in prizes. They met at an Iowa Hawkeyes game in 2006 and became engaged after a beach proposal in Hilton Head. Faust coaches at the University of Iowa wrestling team. wedding planned for September 20.
Cassie Hirsbrunner plans to train in Iowa this summer as she eyes wrestling in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and juggles her May move to Baltimore for physician assistant studies.
