Jeanne Carson of Coggon will attend the American Legion Auxiliary Awareness Assembly in Washington from Sunday through March 10. About 400 members are expected. Carson as Central Division national vice president will help lead the meeting. Linn-Mar school board plans a 5 p.m. work session and 7 p.m. meeting at the Education Services Center to discuss raising the property tax levy up to one dollar per thousand. They aim to cover a $726,626 special education deficit and fund cash reserves while enrollment rose to 5,415 students.
Marengo wires a budget hearing for March 8 at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber to discuss a proposed tax rate rise from 13.52 to 13.99 per thousand. The levy boosts property tax revenue from 610 545 to 647 963 to offset about 43 000 in state cuts, city officials say.
Proposed tax rate increase from $13.52 to $13.99 per 1000 assessed value includes FICA and IPERS. Revenue rises from 3,066,025 to 3,120,447 while expenditures fall from 3,422,210 to 3,264,853. The plan uses 144,406 from reserves, reducing total reserves to 590,612.
In Linn District Court Linn City, Willie L. Carroll 46 of 222 Fifth Ave SW had a second offense domestic abuse charge dismissed for alleged June 22, 2003 assault on Jannett Morrin. Michael S. Prunty 26 of Waterloo had an assault causing bodily injury domestic abuse charge dismissed for an alleged Nov 11, 2002 incident involving Britney Death in the 2200 block of 5 Street SW.
Experience Works seeks Iowa residents 65 or older who are employed at least 20 hours weekly for nomination to the Prime Time Awards. Winners travel to Washington, DC for events Oct 5 to 9 as part of the national honors program.
