Inflation hits the poor hardest as 43 percent report being much worse off, versus 25 percent of the retired and 21 percent of blue collar workers.

Metro Narcotics agents concluded a lengthy investigation Tuesday night by arresting seven individuals on drug related charges. Jeffrey Kaldem, a 26 year old attorney of 1940 Park Ave SE, faces possession of a substance believed to be heroin. Others include Mack Gibson 41, David J Jones Jr 23, Bernita Jones 21, Mary Luter 32, Ernest L Gibson 40, and Jeffrey S Read 21. Officers also seized cocaine and marijuana during the operation at 1725 A Ave NE and 2115 Deborah Drive SW and related warrants were executed at the law office of a Cedar Rapids attorney.
Federal Railroad Administration officials led by Robert E. Gallamore will meet Gov. Ray in Des Moines Monday then tour Cedar Rapids rail terminals and yards Tuesday. The visits follow Chicago Midwest railroad restructuring talks and include discussions with IDOT, the House and Senate transportation subcommittees, and Pella area shippers. A helicopter tour of Cedar Rapids terminal areas is planned before a 9:30 AM City Hall briefing with city, Linn County planners, and others.
