Lumbering in Iowa’s Valley Rivers and Planing Mills
A historical survey of Iowa’s lumber era details logging camps in Wisconsin and Minnesota, rafts on the Mississippi, and how log drives built a vast raft trade. It covers sawmills from pioneer handwork to steam, major Iowa planing mills, and the shift to doors, sash, and furniture, plus regional centers and production figures from 1840 to 1930.
