Cedar Rapids compost plant turns yard waste into nutrient rich soil
The agency operates 40 windrows over 8.5 acres using aerated windrow composting to convert natural debris into compost. Piles cook at 130 to 170 degrees, aided by Scarab turners and daily water from a retention pond. Compost is lab tested and certified by the U S Composting Council and is free for Linn County residents with a $32 per ton tipping fee for yard waste and compost purchases.
