Chaz Higgs, a former Navy medic and critical care nurse, is found guilty of first degree murder in the poisoning death of Nevada State Controller Kathy Augustine. The Washoe County jury deliberated under nine hours before the verdict and Higgs faces life in prison. Augustine died July 11, 2006 after life support removal following investigators’ statements and autopsy finding succinylcholine. Nurses testified Higgs disparaged his wife and spoke of leaving her before her death.
