Czech Village merchants collect 5000 signatures to urge Cedar Rapids to reopen the 16th Avenue bridge or renovate it for safer pedestrian traffic. The bridge was closed after a routine inspection found significant deterioration, with sidewalks barricaded but the road open to pedestrians and cyclists.

Linn County Auditor Linda Langenberg says the office will receive 14 modular work stations chairs and carpet for staff. The Haworth furnishings, bought through Matt Parrott Co. at a 40 percent discount, will replace years of worn items.
