Residents near stadium press dust complaint in Cedar Rapids
Thirty two residents living near Cedar Rapids Memorial Stadium petitioned the Memorial commission and city council over dusty streets and parking areas. They blame crushed rock surfaces and grading for dust blowing onto homes and property, calling for action to reduce emissions and oil additional stretches under the commission’s responsibility. Public Improvements Commissioner David L. Williams said some streets are oiled and that others fall to the Memorial commission or independent school district. He noted the Memorial group authorized oiling funded by assessments, with some school board property excluded. The group previously protested dust during pre construction grading, which coated homes with yellow dust and kept windows closed.
