Postwar Iowa prospects seen as bright by Haskell
Iowa War Manpower director George D. Haskell, a 47 year old economist and former University of Iowa faculty member, says Iowa’s postwar outlook is relatively bright due to its balance of agriculture and industry. He envisions gradual reconversion, industry decentralization, and public works programs to ease transition while maintaining wartime production skills and private industry participation. He notes expected civilian employment shifts including more women returning to lower wartime peaks and more handicapped workers retained. April 1946.
