Surprising Mississippi catch a four foot American eel
Mitch Lemke and his grandson Brayden fished Pool 4 of the Mississippi when Brayden hooked a four foot American eel, a rare and remarkable find. The eel, a seldom-seen river inhabitant, illuminated notes from the Minnesota DNR that eels in the region are scarce and migrate between saltwater and freshwater. The event followed Iowa youth anglers competing at Grand Lake o' the Cherokees with 37 states and Zimbabwe participants, highlighting the scale and scholarships of the Student Angler Federation finals.
