Two downtown Cedar Rapids eateries close doors
The Flame Room at 310 Third Ave SE closes tonight after owners Devin and Betsy Pipkin seek to exit the business. Garden Court at 316 Second St SE closed Wednesday due to downtown construction hurting traffic and revenue. Both closures affect about 27 workers combined with no clear plans to reopen.

Center Point awards water project contract to Skyline
Center Point City Council awarded a water and sewer mains contract for South Industrial Park to Skyline Construction Inc. of Decorah. The bid was 79,745 dollars, higher than the estimate but below the initial envision. Funding relies largely on property taxes from North Linn Ford Inc., Walker, which pledged a building valued at least 300,000 dollars, with remaining costs expected to be covered by tax increments in the urban renewal district.
