Sunset Law Fails to Win Ray Veto in Iowa Session
Gov. Robert D. Ray vetoed a sunset law bill that would require performance audits and six yearly agency reviews, arguing it lengthens sessions and creates unnecessary bureaucracy. He approved other bills including a social services appropriation and a campaign finance measure with restrictions on unions.

Judge rules for county in Koppen pay raise dispute
Dubuque District Judge Karl Kenline ruled a jail matron Norma Koppen was not the victim of sex discrimination and voided the Dubuque Human Rights Commission order for a $700 raise. He said county law gives final salary authority to the county, and the board was improperly excluded from the complaint. The October filing preceded a typical county-employe raise review, which had granted Koppen a 14 percent raise.
