Anamosa street improvements face objections at hearing
City hall heard strong opposition from 31 West End homeowners led by a Monticello attorney. He argued the 40 60 cost split is unfair since the streets are not primarily residential and many elderly residents could lose their homes. Residents urged alternative funding and prioritized drainage over street work. The hearing lasted three hours and another session was set for Oak street.

In a special meeting Iowa City officials learned 11.7 acres of the R-14 urban renewal project appraised at about $3 per square foot yielding $1.5 million, leaving a $2 million shortfall. Local funding would cover $7.1 million with a hoped for $2.5 million from land sales plus $553,035 already contracted. The city also kept the $1 overtime parking fine but may raise nonpayment penalties, including a $7 in-person court payment option after notices and court filing for continued nonpayment.
