Exemption In Housing Bias Code Faces House Vote

The House judiciary committee approved a Mathias substitute exempting owners of up to four family homes who sell or lease themselves from the open housing ban while real estate agents face prohibitions. If an owner uses a broker and orders bias, the broker may also be exempt, with only two such transactions allowed per year. The move would largely exclude private housing from the bill.

Parsons College Disowned By Iowa Church

The United Presbyterian Synod of Iowa voted 78 to 21 to sever its 87 year link with Parsons College in Fairfield. The move aligns with the national Assembly which had already cut ties, citing a shift away from church related higher education.

Kennedy strengthens grip on New York Democratic Party in primary

Senator Robert Kennedy won a power test with Tammany Hall boosting control of New York state Democrats. He backed Justice Samuel Silverman for surrogate court, a move that also reinforced his liberal image as Klein and Jones split party lines. Silverman led with 70,771 votes to 447,625 for Klein. Rohan had 8,084. Javits backed Casey who lost to Goldwater foe.

Linn County approves outside Cedar Rapids reappraisal plan

The Linn county conference board voted to hire a firm to re evaluate property outside Cedar Rapids. They will levy 142 mills raising about 120000 to fund the reappraisal to equalize county valuations. Supervisor Anthony Scolaro noted unanimous approval after earlier defeat and described mixed attendance by officials.

Wilson Condemns Bombing Extension Over Hanoi and Haiphong
