The Palo consolidated school district sold $135 000 in bonds to Central Republic Company of Chicago to finance remodeling and new construction. The bid carried a 2.3805 percent net interest rate over 20 years. Planned facilities include a gymnasium auditorium and several additional classrooms with bids to be let later.

Liquor Seized at Tipton Golf Club Ordered Returned
Judge Maxwell ordered Cedar County Sheriff Willey to release bottles of liquor seized by County Attorney Norton’s raiding party at the Tipton Golf and Country Club on May 7. Old Buildings Sold by College School District
The College Community school district sold about 10000 dollars of surplus property at auction. Five school houses and all buildings on the 40 acre site for the new Prairie high school were sold along with other surplus items. Honey Grove school acreage brought 6500 dollars via Ed Sager of Cedar Rapids. Center No 3 known as Jappa school went to the landowner. Fairfax sites went to adjacent owners. Labelle and Maple Grove to be removed. Cherry Valley site and building sold to adjacent landowner. About 1000 dollars earned from the 40 acre site buildings. Joe Divishek bought most of the buildings.

No Postcard Size Iowa Tax Return
Iowa will not cut income tax returns to postcard size. The Iowa Tax Commission ordered the state printing board to produce three million single sheet forms for 1955 tax returns after officials said postal size forms could not accommodate all required information. Iowa Lifer Is Granted Parole After 27 Years
Steven J. Mikulka, 45, released from Fort Madison after more than 27 years in prison. Convicted of murdering Henry Westcott, 58, a Logan farmer, in 1927, Mikulka claimed self defense after a wrench blow during a dispute over horses on Westcott's farm. Special to The Gazette. Tipton farmer Harry Schott reported to Cedar County Sheriff Willey that a hog weighing 175 pounds was killed and butchered on his Tipton area farm. A car with an Illinois license plate stopped at about 5 p.m. Sunday. Schott noticed skin and entrails afterward.
