Wakefield Learning From Michigan’s Baseball Prospect
Wakefield, a 6 foot 2 inch 192 pound outfielder, showed speed and a strong arm in Michigan’s Western Conference championship run. Coach Fisher spotted his potential early, shifting him from catcher to outfield. The left handed hitter batted .382 with nine homers and won praise as a Ted Williams like swinger. Wakefield will be 21 next May 6 and thus exempt from draft registration. A professor noted his top grades, while his value to the program is highlighted by a $45,000 evaluation of a raw recruit.
