Hip hop murals and historic recalls mark Cedar Rapids July events
Mount Vernon native Jim Swift recalls Katharine Hepburn after her death at 96 and praises her as a luminous star. In Cedar Rapids, a 60 foot hip hop mural was painted by Paco Rosic and Metro High students at the Henry Davidson Youth Center. Officials flagged Iowa counties as disaster areas amid record rainfall while local artifacts at St Joseph’s Elkader church were sought. Cedar Rapids figures Don Defore and Civil War veteran Thomas Sedgwick featured in city events.
