After seven years in the United States they, now 20, excel in Washington High School courses and language skills while living with foster families through Lutheran Social Service.
Lutheran Social Service workers report a shortage of foster homes for Southeast Asian children in Linn and Jones counties. About half of 87 foster homes care for Vietnam and Cambodia refugees, while the rest house American-born children. Four Vietnamese youths were recently turned away due to lack of available foster homes.
