Cedar Rapids man returns flag stolen after World War II voyage
Cedar Rapids resident Robert Tiedtke surrendered a long journey to West Germany to reclaim a flag brought home by his late brother-in-law, an Army infantryman. Tiedtke and German born Rose Sacy located the flag with a Gettenau gymnastics club, which celebrated the reunion with tears and souvenirs. The two traveled June 4 and came back Wednesday after a two-year search and a generous welcome.
