Betty Debnam explains how a large fireworks show requires up to 20 shooters to handle 3000 to 4000 shells after five years of training. Shooters load shells into mortars while the fuses may be controlled by a board if music accompanies the show or lit by hand otherwise.
A music cue sheet times fire commands for shells, matching fast and slow music with shell tempo. A count track accompanies the tape so the sound expert fires in sequence, with mortars loaded in the correct order. Computers may automate firing in repeated shows.
