Poverty Gardens Still Unplanted in Wichita
Jack Sheets conceived a community garden at the West Community Action Center in April to aid the poor by growing vegetables. He provided half an acre, purchased fertilizer, and lined up participating families, but no one showed up. Notices say some changed minds and others found the site too far to walk. The half acre lies overgrown with weeds and a wrecked car remains abandoned there. Sheets still has the fertilizer.
