Leonard makes history in knockout of Kalule for two titles
Sugar Ray Leonard defeated Ayub Kalule in the ninth round to claim the WBA middleweight title while holding the WBC welterweight crown. He became the first boxer since 1938 to own more than one title at once and eyed Hagler's title in September. Hearns stopped Pablo Baez. Cuevas knocked out Hansen as part of the Astrodome card. Leonard earned 2.5 million, Kalule at least 150 thousand.
