Tauke seeks legislation to aid trucking industry
Rep. Tom Tauke announced a plan to push a resolution urging the Energy and Transportation departments and the Interstate Commerce Commission to use existing powers to boost diesel supplies. He cites a 15 percent shortage of middle distillates and a 35 percent rise in diesel prices since January. The proposal seeks emergency steps to maximize production, set nationwide truck weight and length limits, and ensure truckers are compensated for rising fuel costs. Tauke also notes Iowa and other states relaxing heavy-truck restrictions to ease shortages.
