Humans push mammals toward nocturnal activity worldwide
A meta-analysis of 76 papers on 62 mammal species across six continents finds that high human disturbance shifts wildlife toward nocturnality by about 1.36 times. The effect spans habitats and activities, with potential ecosystem consequences from apex predator regulation to niche competition and altered seed dispersal.
