Nursing shortage pressures UI Health Care costs and faculty

UI Health Care faces higher costs from traveling nurses with contracts up to 110 an hour and a base staff nurse pay around 54 679 annually. The system cites a 1.5 million monthly rise in operating costs from travel staffing and continues aggressive recruiting while expanding the Stead Family Children’s Hospital and seeking to fill 40 new faculty positions amid retirement and national competition.
