Oscar winner Sidney Poitier told the Bahamas House of Assembly that he is Bahamian through his mother and father and himself. The Miami-born actor, raised on Cat Island, is in Nassau as narrator for a government documentary on independence day, with the nation set to mark 28 years of independence in July. He was knighted in 1968.
