The Illinois Gaming Board declined to renew the Silver Eagle riverboat casino license on Tuesday, signaling the end of its operation when the license expires July 31. The decision targets a money-losing facility facing stiff Mississippi River competition from Dubuque Iowa.
East Dubuque refused to confirm ongoing operation of the Silver Eagle after a 5-0 vote. H P Inc requested renewal but urged suspending gambling while considering moving the boat within Illinois. Gaming officials said the board cannot move licenses and acted due to noncompliance and lack of future operation plans.

In Ravanna, Missouri, two men drowned while attempting to rescue 15 year old Wade Cox of Lake City Iowa from a pond where he and friends fished. Cox died at a hospital after the drowning Sunday evening near a dock at the pond.
