Settlement Reached in Cedar Rapids Accidents Suit
A $6,000 out of court settlement was approved in a $50,000 lawsuit over injuries to 11 year old Mark Grahek from a car incident on Indianale Road SE near Trailridge Road. Plaintiffs alleged driver Bernard Gradoville and door opener Scott Brady caused concussion and medical costs.

Four In Linn County District Court Suit Drunk Driving
Four persons in the Linn County District Court First Avenue division were sentenced on drunk driving charges. Robert J. Davis 24 of Springville had a March 29 charge dismissed after pleading guilty to related charges. Randall E. Sorgdrager 29 of Sioux Falls South Dakota received a 60 day suspended jail sentence and probation to his attorney plus drunk drivers school. Gerald L. Tann 37 of 1203 Center St NE and Douglas L. McKENchnie 23 of Atkins arrested March 19 and May 15 respectively were placed on probation to their attorneys or the Department of Corrections after pleading guilty and receiving deferred sentences.

Local tax exemption deadline looms for homeowners
Homeowners and veterans must act by July 1 to qualify for 1981 homestead and veterans exemptions. Linn County, Cedar Rapids, and City offices offer Saturday hours 8 a.m. to noon for late filings. Exemption amounts include about 170 dollars for homestead and 65 or 98 dollars for military credits, with contact numbers and office locations provided.
