World Food Bank Proposed to Ease Global Shortage
Washington based food expert Lester R Brown urged creation of a world food bank modeled on the IMF to regulate a global food reserve. The plan would allow purchases when prices fall and sales when they rise, aiming to deter price spikes and bolster producer incentives. He noted world grain reserves at two-decade lows and warned of scarce idle cropland, urging national minimum reserves or a global buffer to counter poor crop years.
