Light corn rootworm infestations seen across Iowa

Extension entomologist Harold Gunderson notes only light rootworm activity in 13 Iowa counties this week with mostly western species and worms under 14 days old. Vivan Jennings reports low counts in Benton and Johnson counties and advises timely treatment with Diazinon, Thimet, parathion, or carbaryl if fields follow corn and were untreated at planting. Weather favors residual insecticides and July dry conditions may limit spread. Farmers should apply now to ride out rains and use windshields to target granules over the row.
