Lightning Hits Feeder Station Cuts Cedar Rapids Power
A 13,800-volt feeder near the Iowa Manufacturing Company was struck by lightning about 8 am, outage lasting roughly 15 minutes in east Cedar Rapids. The strike damaged the feeder, cutting Bever Park and Mt. Vernon Road substations. a spare circuit was then activated along Cold Stream Avenue NE to restore power.

The plan includes sheltering in basements, dropping prone, shielding the face, waiting after blasts before venturing out, choosing safe food and water, and avoiding rumors to prevent panic. Aid will come from private planes landing at Hunter Field with dispersal at Hawkeye Downs and Wilson School. 300 to 500 planes are expected from 40 eastern airports.

Cedar Rapids approves plan naming Assistant Health Officer Carl D. Smith as restaurant inspector in addition to duties under a new licensing ordinance. He will periodically inspect eating places and taverns to ensure ordinance compliance, earning an extra 75 dollars per month. Forest Fire in Gila National Forest Unchecked
In Silver City New Mexico the largest fire in Gila national forest history roared out of control burning over 25 000 acres of timber. More than 1 000 men fought the blaze as Edwin Tucker forest superintendent hoped to corral it by Tuesday. Wildlife including deer turkeys and bear was destroyed in large numbers. The fire reached a cattle grazing area Saturday night and some livestock was lost.

Pullman hotel operator pleads innocent on overcharge charge
Wessler, operator of the Pullman hotel, pled innocent to charging more than the posted rate. Complainant Erwin A. Herman Thuecks of 703 Eighth street SE was fined 100 dollars and costs in traffic court on a reckless driving charge after an early Sunday accident on Center Point road NE between C and B avenues.
