A Soldier Letters Saluting a Lifelong Bond at Camp Wheeler
In a wartime note, a veteran recalls Jack Mayo of Miami Springs age 23 who saved him during 17 weeks of basic training at Camp Wheeler Georgia. Jack coached him over obstacles and rifles, endured long hikes, and kept him sane before Jacks deployment to Anzio. Tonight he plans to treat Jack and his bride to dinner, honoring a mentor and friend.
